There is a new boy in the class. His name is Ali. He does not speak. He looks at the floor.
The teacher, Mr. Brown, is kind. He does not ask Ali to talk in front of everyone.
He is patient and considerate. He puts a drawing of a cat on Ali's desk. Ali likes cats.
Ali draws a cat too. Then he writes one word: "Cat." Mr. Brown smiles.
At the end of the day, Ali says, "Thank you." It is a small voice, but it is a start.
Mr. Brown is proud of him. The class is not perfect, but Ali has a place in it now.
A thought to keep
A small welcome can change a whole day.
