Lina is an architect. A small village needs a bridge over a wide river. The old bridge broke in the winter.
The village has little money. Lina cannot build a big, expensive bridge. She must be patient and think.
She walks through the village and listens. An old woman needs a flat path. A farmer needs a strong road for carts. Children need a safe rail.
Lina is diligent. She draws all night. In the morning, she shows a simple bridge with a wide path and a wooden rail.
"It is not beautiful," she says. "It is considerate," says the old woman. "That is better."
The village builds the bridge together. When the first cart crosses, Lina is proud of the work. She did not design a monument. She designed a way to connect people.
A thought to keep
Good design starts with listening.
