At four in the morning, the city is dark. But in a small bakery on Rose Street, the lights are already on. Ana is a baker. She ties her apron and turns on the oven.

Her hands move fast. Flour, water, salt, and time. While the city sleeps, she makes bread for the day.

Ana is not alone. Her neighbour, Mr. Lee, comes in to help. He is old and slow, but he is kind. He sweeps the floor and tells jokes.

At six, the first customer arrives. A young mother with a baby. "One warm loaf, please." Ana gives her two. "The second one is for the baby," she says. The mother smiles.

Ana is generous with what she has. "Bread is better when it is shared," she says.

By noon, the shelves are empty. Ana sits down and eats her own lunch: a simple piece of bread and cheese. She is proud of her work. Tomorrow, she will wake up early and do it again.

A thought to keep

Small work, done with love, can wake a whole street.
